Who we are

Slum Girls Initiative (SGI) was founded in 2016 in Korogocho Slum and it is registered as a CBO. Since inception SGI has provided practical support for menstruating adolescents and young women through provision of adequate quality sanitary pads and underwear whilst in school and other support such as critical information and advice and counselling. We advocate for their rights from wider society and from those whose duty it is to care and protect the females in our community especially the young.
OUR IMPACT

The negative impact of slum life and poverty on children, young women including young mothers from the informal settlements(slums) drives SGI and all our activities. We highlight those parts of society that are broken, so we can help those young females in to regaining hope and to flourish in life.

Our numbers that speak to our achievements

We have numbers that push us to give in our best and make sure that we break our own records. We are happy to be growing and helping more day by day.

Tumaini Trust Kenya was founded in 2014 to provide scholarships to bright and needy students, from Nairobi’s Korogocho Slums to secondary and tertiary education in Kenya. Over the years, the Trust has awarded scholarships to over 150 students, facilitated placement of university students into industrial attachment and internships in top firms and institutions in Nairobi and major towns in Kenya. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance of the students, their attitude and financial inability.
The Trust’s scholars are enrolled in top public secondary schools and universities in Kenya, and into top courses such as Law, Medicine, Economics and Finance, Engineering, Journalism and Media Studies, to ensure the Trust’s alumni rise to prominent roles in the society and contribute to leadership and economic development in Kenya. The Trust runs four programs:

(i) the Scholarship,

(ii) Internship,

(iii) Mentorship and

(iv) Community Outreach through Clean-Up Week, Volunteer, Music Festivals and Sports Tournaments.
